If you were watching the Oscars this weekend, you saw a lot of men in tuxedos.  If you watched a little more closely, you may have seen a few celebrities that stood out from the masses that were clad in black notch lapel numbers.

Today we present you with a red carpet worthy look that showcases our favorite trends from the 87th Academy Awards ceremony.

One alternative, yet still classic take on black tie is to brighten things up with midnight blue (a la James Bond in Skyfall). From there, you can take your personal style a step further by swapping out a dinner jacket for a velvet smoking jacket.

Another way to break free from the notch lapel is to opt for a shawl collar. Still perfectly acceptable at a formal event, and a nod to old school Hollywood to boot.

Last but not least, accessories are a great way to liven up any outfit. We were a big fan of the man-brooches sported by numerous celebrities from Jared Leto to Clint Eastwood.
